Training

Who ever you are, what ever your needs, we have the right training package for you.

Tandem Club

The Tandem Club is primarily for people with visual impairments but not exclusively. There are rides once a month. Contact us if you are interested.

Midweek Pedallers

A group for less confident riders that meets at lunchtime every Wednesday.

Are you interested in leading group rides?

Pedal Power is looking into developing training to give people like you the confidence and skills to get the most out of group ride leading. This could include topics such as risk assessments for cycle routes, group management and cycle maintenance.

We would be very grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete an online survey into the types of training that would interest you. It can be complete anonymously, but please do leave your contact details confidentially if you would like further information on the training.

Training for Support Workers

Cycle Safety Awareness Class for Support Workers

A highly practical course designed for support workers, carers and parents of disabled cyclists, our cycle safety awareness training covers:Cycle Safety Awareness Logo

Duration: 1.5hrs Cost: £20 per person

Training for Adults

Learn to ride a 2-wheel bike – These classes are for anyone wanting to learn to ride a 2-wheel bike. If you have never ridden, or it has been a long time since you have ridden, we will teach you! Suitable for all ages, you can hire a bike and helmet as part of the session. Lessons take place in the flat, open spaces of Pontcanna Fields. Classes are tailored to meet your needs, please call or email to discuss your requirements.

Guide price: £20 per hour for a 1:1 session including bike and helmet hire

Bikeability Levels 1, 2, and 3 - These classes are intended to develop your cycling ability, from honing your balance and control in off road environments to correct road safety on light traffic roads to navigating large roundabouts, commuting skills in high traffic environments. Classes are tailored to meet your needs, please call or email to discuss your requirements.

Level 1: in a safe, off-road environment such as the park we work on your bike control skills to prepare you for road riding, covering topics such as cornering, braking and signalling.

Level 2: instruction takes place on quiet roads covering anticipating the traffic, positioning and signalling to enable you to ride with confidence in areas such as residential streets.

Level 3: covers advanced techniques and road features such as roundabouts and high traffic areas, working on skills that may be applicable to you such as rehearsing your commute.

Guide price: £20 per hour for a group of up to six (Levels 1&2) or up to two (Level 3). Full certification is two hours (Level 1) or six hours (Level 2) but courses can be tailored to your specific needs if you do not require certification.

Training for Children 2012

All children’s classes are offered with the presumption that the parent will stay and learn to support their child on their cycle.

Trike Skills – This class is designed for children who wish to learn to ride safely on a trike. This class aims at teaching cycle environmental awareness, improve safety skills and improve confidence in controlling a cycle. This training is particularly suited for children who feel safest cycling a trike.

Bike Skills- Bike Skills class for children who have the ability to pedal a bike with stabilizers but wish to progress without them. The Aim of this course is to develop balance on a 2-wheeler as well as basic bike skills. The group training tends to take place on four consecutive days for 1 hour each day in an indoor facility near Pedal Power. This training is particularly suited for children who for any reason have difficulties with cycling and are 8 years or older.

National Standard Level 1, 2, and 3; Classes for children. These courses are suitable for all children whether they are experienced cyclists on two-wheelers or three-wheelers.

Pedal Power run children’s training courses for groups twice a year. The next training week begins Monday 23rd July. The cost for each group session per child/per hour is currently £5, thanks to recent successful funding applications.

Family Training

Family learn to ride - 1 hour session– Designed for a family of 4 of beginner cyclists. Even if you know how to ride but want to teach your child- we will help teach you the correct techniques. Depending on who needs to learn to ride there will be 1 instructor per brand new rider.

Guide price: £20 per hour for a single instructor

Family On road training – 2 hour session – For a family of 4 to give you the basics of on road cycling. This class is designed to give parents peace of mind when the children ride to and from school.

Guide price: £40 per session
