How we are funded
We are a charity and are therefore responsible for raising the
funds we need. We are also a registered company and all income from
the company's activities are used to support the aims of the
charity. As an organisation our turnover is approximately £250000.
This income comes from a number of different sources:
- Awards from grant-making bodies. These is our major source
of income but we are actively working to reduce our dependence
on such grants as they are often restricted in the way we can
use them and only cover a relatively short period of time so we
constantly need to find new awards. This is time consuming and
the time delays and uncertainties mean that long term planning
is difficult.
- Income from the operations of our trading company. This is a
combination of accessible
and general bike hire and sales in our
Spokes Café.
We also arrange cycle tours both
locally but also
long-range tours over several days At the moment this
accounts for about 25% of our income but we are committed to
making this our major source of income to decrease our reliance
on grants
- Sponsorship from local companies
- Fundraising by our supporters. This includes major events
such as our annual sponsored rides, the Vintage Fairs, quizzes
and other small events
- It is also possible to give online using various sites. We
also take part in occasional major campaigns like the Big
Give
- It is possible to raise funds for us when online shopping or
by using a search engine that makes small contributions to us
when used by a supporter
We are always on the look out for new fund raising ideas so
please email us if you have any ideas.
