Bute Park Events

We are fortunate to be located in Pontcanna Fields, part of the huge green area right in the centre of the city as a result of the Bute family withdrawing from the city in 1948 after the coal industry was nationalised. Across the river is Bute Park, originally laid out by Capability Brown and the home of an internationally important arboretum. As well as providing a wonderful traffic free environment for cyclists of all abilities the parks play host to a huge variety of wild life. There are salmon and probably otter in the river and a huge selection of birdlife including peregrine falcons and ravens more usually associated with the wilderness areas of Wales.

We have a series of events designed to help people appreciate the area and to get to know the birdlife in particular. In May the Dawn Chorus is at its height and we have a walk to help you enjoy the birdsong and learn which song is which. Later in the month Jenny Dowell, our training officer and a keen bird-watcher, will give a presentation to help identoify the birds of the park by sight.
