Birdwatching Events

Help support Pedal Power Project and learn about the birds of Bute Park by joining us for a number of events arranged by Jenny Dowell, our volunteer support officer, who is a keen bird-watcher.

Dawn Chorus Walk: Saturday 5 May 2012 6-9.30am

Join us for a gentle walk through the park to listen to and identify bird song, followed by a breakfast roll and cuppa in our Spokes Cafe. The walk is up to 2 miles long on mostly flat tarmac or other smooth surfaces. This is a fundraising event for Pedal Power so we are asking for contributions of £5 per person. Booking is essential. Introduction to Bird Identification: Tuesday 29 May 2012 6-9pm

This is an indoor meeting to learn the basics of bird identification, focusing on species likely to be seen in Pontcanna Fields and Bute Park. With a variety of habitats including parkland, woodland, scrub and the river there are many species that may be seen here. This indoor meeting will be followed by a walk the next Saturday to put into practice what we have learnt. Come to one or both events. These are fundraising events for Pedal Power so we are asking for a contribution of £5 for this indoor Meeting, £10 for the walk (includes lunch at our Spokes Cafe), or £12 for both. Bird Walk: Saturday 2 June 2012 9am-12.30pm

A gentle walk through Pontcanna Fields and Bute Park to identify the birds that can be seen in the variety of habitats found here. This walk can be done on its own or as a follow up to the indoor session on the 29 May. The walk will be followed by a light lunch in our Spokes Cafe. These are fundraising events for Pedal Power so we are asking for a contribution of £10 for the walk (including lunch), £5 for the indoor meeting, or £12 for both. Booking is essential.
